Upgrading the Albert Canal

In Wijnegem, a brand new road bridge and a pedestrian & bicycle bridge will replace the existing bridge over the Albert Canal on the Turnhoutsebaan. The replacement is part of a larger project to upgrade Albert Canal, the most economically important waterway in Flanders, transited by approx. 2 million trucks a year.

As the current bridges over Albert Canal impede the passing of larger cargo ships, rethinking them was a priority. The new arrangement will increase the capacity of maritime transport and ease road traffic.

Splendid was in charge of the final design stage of the project.

Our team, consisting of four structural engineers, delivered high-quality 3D models and 2D plans. The high level of detail, the automation tools for increased efficiency, and the excellent collaboration with the client deemed this project successful.
