3D modelling and pre-design locks

Sas-Slijkens lock complex, dating from 1754-1758, played a significant role in shipping on Ostend and in the drainage system of the hinterland, until 1903 when it was closed, dismantled and fitted with new collection works for shipping during the interwar period.

The weirs along the Dender, in Pollare and Idegem, were built in the 1860s, during the channelling and recalibration. The thrust infrastructure of both sites was highly outdated and in dire need of renewal in order to ensure operational security regarding water drainage.

Splendid participated in the pre-design phase of the project that included the demolition of the old weir and the lockkeeper’s house and the construction of new assets: a weir, a fish passage, a service building and a bridge.

We created the BIM models of the locks starting from the old 2D plans, point clouds and topographic surveys.
