The Brussels Ring Road (R0) transformation program represents an ambitious infrastructure initiative aimed at reimagining the northern and eastern sections of this critical transportation artery. This comprehensive redevelopment addresses challenges in the current traffic network, particularly at the complex junctions with the E19 in Machelen and the E40 in Zaventem, where closely spaced ramps create hazardous conditions and contribute to regional congestion.


The project introduces an innovative parallel road structure that separates regional through traffic from local movements via a dual-system approach: an express ring for long-distance travel and an urban ring for local access. By reconfiguring interchanges into compact, multi-level configurations, the solution simultaneously enhances safety, improves traffic flow, and reclaims valuable land for ecological restoration. This integrated approach incorporates wildlife corridors, daylighted waterways, extensive stormwater management infrastructure, and comprehensive active mobility networks that reconnect communities while creating expanded green margins with noise attenuation features to enhance neighborhood livability.

We delivered integrated BIM management services for this transformative initiative, coordinating the entire design process across multiple engineering disciplines. Our team provided specialized expertise in site grading design, traffic safety engineering, and civil structural elements including bridges and microtunnels. Through custom automation tools developed by our technical specialists, we significantly enhanced workflow efficiency across the project ecosystem. 

Our visualization team created compelling presentation videos for various components, effectively communicating complex infrastructure concepts to diverse stakeholders in collaboration with Arcadis Excellence Center Iasi. This approach ensured that technical excellence supported all four core objectives: traffic safety enhancement, ecological restoration, sustainable mobility promotion, and community livability improvement.
