southern outskirts, where the current narrow bridge creates significant traffic bottlenecks. This strategic infrastructure initiative aims to enhance both maritime shipping capacity and roadway efficiency in the Bruges metropolitan area while preserving the natural heritage of the region.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following a 2014 Urban Navigation study, a fixed, tall bridge for road traffic and a movable, flat bridge for cyclists and pedestrians will replace the outdated structure over the Gent-Oostende canal.
